Wrestling 2009-2010 come to an end and make me think about the song "In The End" by Linkin Park

As a wrestler I thought it was the greatest pump up song of all time; now that I heard it as a coach I interpret it differently. As I see great wrestling careers coming to an end the song doesn’t seem so nice. North Plainfield’s most winning wrestler of all time , Mario Herrera, and a long time friend rapped up his wrestling career with a career record of 105-25. The song,"In the End", perfectly describes all the emotions that as a senior one feel. "I tried so hard, and got so far but in the end it doesn’t even matter", last year as a junior he finished 3rd in district 12 and in region 3. This earned him a trip to Atlantic City for the NJ State Wrestling Tournament. This year, his goals were to once again go to States and place in this very prestigious tournament. Going in to District 12 he was 26-0 , which earned him a seconded seed, he finished 3 which meant he could move on to the region 3 tournament however he finished 6th this year. This meant he would not go to States this year. Earlier in the season he asked me if I could help coach because he wasn’t really getting a good work out with his teammate (basically unless he practice with the head coach he wasn’t getting any better). After filling the proper paper work I starting practicing with his during practice and making him work. A few minutes after he lost he goes up to me and said; "I did all that hard work and it ended up not being enough". The song in the end pretty much predicts any athletes’ future unless of course you win the state championship lol. And any wrestler who I ask in they know the song they all respond similarly, "I hate it but I like it", it’s a great song but it brings bad memories of all the blood and sweat one sheds for the sport they love and yet the sport is so cruel [:)] Mario Herrera will most likely be wrestling in college he hasn’t yet decided where he want to go.

  1. I'm not really a big fan of wrestling, but I do like the song "In the End" and I can see how it can pump you up.

  2. Yuri, All of the hard work is always worth it. This young man learned a great deal just training for all of these matches. He has no idea what his future holds and what greatness is yet in store for him. He learned a great deal of discipline, he learned how to win, he learned how to lose gracefully. These are very important lessons that can be used all through his life. Athletes who work, really work, and who improve their ability in their sport are always respected. You cannot, as his teacher/coach, allow him to think that this was all in vain. It wasn't!!!!!

  4. Young man you do not know what your blog is doing to those who read it!! I showed this to my son and he was inspired to start blogging amongst his teammates on the basketball team. He feels it not only helps them get to know each other outside of basketball. But will help them by sharing their feelings and ideas amongst the team ! He says it will strenghten the team . Continue to write your thoughts and ideas. Know that what you write will inspire others to try and to explore different things.
